#DearMomWithLove: Warrior
A mother is one who goes against the odds to protect the child when in danger and at the same time, she is the most humble and the kind creation of God.
Pranoti, Your letter is an heartfelt tribute to probably any Mother in this world. Thanks for sharing it with us.
"I offer a chocolate to this neighbor's kid. She briskly accepts it and looks at her mother. Her mother smiles at me and says ‘Chocolate nako(Don’t give her a chocolate)’. The kid quietly returns it without saying a word, face turned down. I try to convince her to accept it; she refuses and hides in her mother’s lap.
Just like this little kid, there might have been times when I followed what you said blindly. Not because I was a kid and didn’t understand things, but because I knew you were the only one who wouldn’t let anything or anyone hurt me.
Today, I come home for a weekend after spending a month away for work. I make plans to meet all my friends, while you spend entire day cooking my favourite food. At night, after spending a lovely day with friends, I enter home to see all of it served right there for me. “Aaj bahar bohot kha liya hai, main ye kal khalu?” You don’t say a word and put everything out in the refrigerator.
Mom, we take you too much for granted. Today let me take a moment to say Sorry to you. Sorry for all the times when you were taken for granted, weren’t respected enough for all the efforts and pain. You had your own ambitions. You made huge sacrifices for us; be it your dreams, your career or your interests. And today you strive day & night at home for us, while we are out there running behind our goals. You are the reason why we call this four walled structure ‘Home’.
“Sometimes, home has a heartbeat.” You are Home.
It was you who supported me the most when I made a decision of moving out for my career. You made it a point to go and convince other girls’ parents when they refused to send their daughters out of the town. “These girls must go out and learn. They need to experience the world”, you would say. You never forced any opinions on me. You allowed me to dream big. You let me bloom in my own way.
Mom, I remember the day when you were sexually assaulted by a beggar and you tied him to a pole and beat him down to ground in public. I was a kid then, but I well understood the situation. I remember you fighting for the neighbour girl’s freedom, who was a bright student, when her parents forcefully married her off, cutting off her wings.
I see you washing the utensils, cleaning the house, helping out Dad in work. I see you being courageous in the outer world, standing up against injustice, raising voice against a subject as crucial as sexual harassment. The world might not know all these daily struggles of yours, but we do. And we immensely respect you. Mom, you are an inspiration to me. You are a true HERO."
Let me end it with a quote that best suits you.
“She is beautiful and terrifying at the same time, like the nature itself”
