God with Third Eye
Wild locks of hair stream in breeze. Half-closed eyes stare in an unbreakable ecstasy. Ash smeared all over the body. Leads a wild life away from social pretenses. His body is poised, executing an inimitable dance move. He lives by his own rules in the deep forests and mountains, dancing, meditating, and doing whatever he considers fit.
He is the greatest of all “SHIVA”.
Shiva also referred as Mahadev (the great god) is conceived as the member of the Trimurti. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is the destroyer and transformer in the three supreme mighty gods. The three main gods being Lord Shiva (the destroyer), Brahma (the creator) and Vishnu (the preserver). He is one distinct from the other gods. He is “Anant” or the one who is neither found born nor dead. He is also described as the god of all gods thus is regarded as limitless, formless, and transcendent. He has always fascinated his followers by his unique appearance, and is known for his proverbial anger.
He is also referred as the patron god of yoga and arts. What appeals about him is, he embodies a lot of contrasts. At one form he is depicted as the Yogi who lives a disciplined life on Kailash and a householder with wife Parvati and two children Ganesha and Kartikeya whereas in fierce aspect he is depicted slaying demons. At one time in India most temples were dedicated to him. However the ancient prayed him not for protection or prosperity but for destruction. They wanted him to annihilate their infinite existence so they could attain the infinite- liberation, Mukti.
Whether you see him as a person, a god, or a myth, whether you like or dislike him, he is certainly hard to ignore and still harder to explain.
The more you learn about him the more your confusion deepens. Not many know the story of how was he born and the legends behind the great god.
Stay tuned.
